Revised: My Views on Poverty and Overpopulation

Sensibly and logically, USA is arguably the country with the least poverty to deal with, and therefore not an issue for them, unlike many others. According to a website made by poverty expert Robert E. Rector and PhD-degree Kirk A. Johnson, they said that Census Bureau, a government agency responsible for the census, stated that 46% of ‘poor families’ in the US actually have a proper home. Already, the country has proven itself that they are in relative poverty, which is quiet the contrary to a type of poverty that many other countries face, the absolute poverty. Also, poor households in the US have one thing that many other poor people in Asia, Africa, and South America don’t have: air conditions. 76% of poor houses actually have an air conditioner, meaning they don’t have to overcome any heat waves or obesity problems. Another example of the US’s lack of poverty is the great decline of poverty they’ve achieved since the 1970’s. Back then, only 36% of the household in the entire country had air conditioning, and compare that to today’s statistics to see the huge improvement. Finally, the amount of equipment and appliances poor families have in the US is astounding compared to other poor countries. While nearly 75% of poor households own at least one car, other poor people in other countries have trouble keeping themselves alive. Even an average poor family has bigger living space than a normal-living family in Paris, London, and other European countries. So all in all, the USA continues to live without poverty and with great development, will continue to decrease the remaining poverty.

DETECTING BIAS QUESTIONS:
1)
The authors could have made their arguments more objective and less biased by overusing and exaggerating on evidences, facts, and other statements that have persuasion. Also, it would have been better, specifically for the author in Viewpoint 2, if they hadn't insulted and practically make fun of people who oppose his side (Chicken Litte? Yeah, he definitely carried it too far.)
2) I think viewpoint 2 was most convincing, because he had stronger and more quantity of evidence than viewpoint one, and even though the author's insults toward opposers were too much, somehow his biased statements persuaded me in a way too.
